Standard and Professional Editions Overview
IMSXpress Standard and Professional Edition is a network software and has two separate components:
- Client Application
- Database
The IMSXpress client application can be installs
directly on user computers; or
be published on a Windows server and distributed to users by Remote Desktop Services as a Remote Application (fromerly Terminal Server), or Citrix, etc.
The database
is a MS SQL database. It can be installed on any MS SQL Server 2014 or higher and be accessed by the IMSXpress
application over any type of network (Secured Internet, LAN, WAN, VPN, Cloud Servers, etc.).
Installation Configuration 1: Client
computers and SQL database hosted on our SQL cloud server
Applies to Subscription Software and to SQL Standard/Professional edition software
with database hosting service.
Install the client IMSXpress application directly on user Windows computers (Mac computer must run a Windows
emulator, like Parallels, for example; or access through a Remote Desktops client).
When IMSXpress starts for the first time it will ask you for the database connection
key that you will enter at that time.
This setup is the easiest to install. You just double-click (run) the client installation
.msi file, and then enter the database connection key. You will be able to connect to
your database from anywhere over a secure (encrypted) internet connection. Note
that this setup requires that you either subscribe to the IMSXpress software or
purchase from us an additional database hosting service.
Installation Configuration 2: Client
computers and SQL database hosted on your own SQL server
Applies to SQL Standard/Professional edition software.
Install the client IMSXpress application directly on user Windows computers (Mac computer must run a Windows
emulator, like Parallels, for example; or access through a Remote Desktops client).
Install the SQL database on any MS SQL Server version 2014 or higher and any edition,
including the free SQL Express editions. The SQL server can be local, remote, or
a cloud server (like Azure SQL, for example). When IMSXpress starts for the first
time it pops up a connection wizard to connect the application to the SQL server.
This setup is easy to install on user computers but requires some IT expertise to
install, set up and maintain the MS SQL Server. It is possible to configure this setup for
remote access from anywhere.
